We are committed to keeping every child safe and for this reason, we ensure that any adult working in school undertake rigorous criminal checks. We insist that any visitor to school who will be working in areas where children have access has clearance and photographic evidence of who they are. We pride ourselves in giving children “A Voice” and for this reason we investigate any allegation a child makes.
All staff have had Child Protection training.
Here at Corngreaves, we take safeguarding very seriously. It is everybody's responsibility.
Joanne Robinson, Kimberley Jones and Leanne Timmins are our Safeguarding Leads.
If you have a concern around the safety of a child, please contact Mrs Joanne Robinson (Designated Safeguarding Lead), Miss Kimberley Jones (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead) or Mrs Leanne Timmins (Designated Teacher for Children in Care).
Our Safeguarding Leads have a diverse range of professional skills to support children, young people and families.
The aim of their work is:
We understand that not every parent or carer may have had a positive school experience themselves. Childhood experiences can stay with us and affect how we engage with others today. If you have a concern but aren’t sure how to speak to the school about it, or if you would prefer to talk to someone in confidence, we are here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for support.
We can signpost you to organisations that can support families through difficult times such as bereavement, separation, unemployment and illness.
No one has ever claimed to be the perfect parent. It’s a tough job, and it isn’t easy all of the time. If your child is showing challenging behaviour, please don’t suffer in silence—support is available, and you don’t have to face it alone.
Transitioning to secondary school can be a challenging time for the whole family, including your child. If you have any concerns about moving on from Corngreaves, or if you need support with completing school applications, please reach out to us. We are here and happy to help.
We are able to provide you with information on benefits, helpful local charities, accessible grants and organisations that can help families on a low income.
If you feel you and your family would benefit from support, please feel free to pop into school office and leave your contact details.
Our Sandwell School Health Team work with children, young people and families to enable children to be healthy and reach their full potential. School Nurses are qualified nurses who have undertaken specialised training in the health of children and young people.
In addition to core school health nursing, we deliver immunisations, and the National Child Measurement Programme.
Operation Encompass is a police and education partnership that supports primary school children exposed to domestic abuse by sharing information between police and schools. When police attend a domestic abuse incident, they inform the designated safeguarding lead at the child's school the next morning so the school can provide immediate support. This initiative allows the school staff to understand the child's potential needs and behaviours and provide the necessary nurture and support.

At Corngreaves Academy, the safety and well-being of our students are of the utmost importance. As part of our commitment to safeguarding our primary-aged children, we have introduced the Safeguarding Padlet — a digital platform designed to provide parents and guardians with up-to-date information, resources, and support to help keep children safe both online and offline.
🌐 We recognise that creating a secure environment is a shared responsibility, and that informed and engaged parents play a vital role in achieving this goal. The Safeguarding Padlet is regularly updated with valuable content, including tips on internet safety, advice on how to talk to children about the challenges they may encounter, and guidance on protecting them from harm. It serves as a central hub for all safeguarding information relevant to our school community.
This initiative forms part of our proactive approach to maintaining a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive without concern for their safety.
We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to visit the Safeguarding Padlet regularly to stay informed about best practices in child safety. Your engagement is crucial to ensuring our community remains a safe and supportive place for all children. 📱
If you have any questions or would like to contribute to the Padlet, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our Safeguarding Team. Together, we can continue to make Corngreaves Academy a place where every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.
** The Safeguarding Padlet will now replace the Safeguarding and Attendance Newsletters. We encourage all parents and guardians to check the Padlet regularly for any important updates and new information. **
